Education for photographers + creatives
Whether you’re just picking up a camera or years into your creative biz, this is your space to learn, explore, and grow. Sometimes you just need a bit of direction, a safe space to ask questions, and someone who's already done the figuring-it-out part.
I'm the heart behind Essjay Photography.
I’m based in Forbes, NSW, and I’ve been in the photography world for over 15 years. In that time, I’ve built a business that’s genuinely mine, and I’ve helped others do the same, without pretending there’s only one right way to get there.
This space is for creative folks who want guidance that’s grounded, practical, and kind. You don’t need to have it all sorted. You just need to be up for learning.
Whether you’re figuring out how to
use your camera or sorting out your
sixth price guide, I’ve got a few
different ways to support you. One-off
chats, hands-on workshops, time to
reset and reconnect with your why—
it’s all here, depending on what you
need and how you like to learn.
online or in person
from $750
A couple of times a year, I host relaxed, content-filled days and retreats that give you a chance to reconnect—with your creativity, your people, and the reason you started in the first place.
Shoot beautiful, styled setups. Learn from guest speakers. Get some tips from me. Talk shop or don’t. Just give yourself the space to create and recharge.
These book out fast and I only run a few each year—so if you're even half-interested, chuck your name on the list and I’ll keep you posted.

Feeling stuck? Starting out? Figuring out your next move? These sessions are completely tailored to you. We can talk photography skills, business strategy, pricing, branding, burnout, big ideas—whatever’s taking up space in your head.
Sessions happen online (Zoom or phone) or in-person if you’re local(ish). Spots are limited each month so we’ve got the time to go deep, not just skim the surface.
If you’re still guessing your settings and hoping for the best—you’re not alone. These small-group workshops are designed to take the pressure off and make things click (literally and metaphorically).
You’ll get:
• A take-home guide
• A live shoot
• Hands-on practice
• A Q&A session
• A small group setting (max 10 people)
You’ll leave with more confidence, a better grip on your gear, and a brain that isn’t fried from trying to learn off YouTube.

I’m not here to tell you there’s one way to do this. There isn’t.
What I can offer is grounded, calm guidance and a space that feels good to be in—whether you learn best by doing, talking it out, spiralling a little first, or asking the same question three times in a row (zero judgement).
I’ve worked with kids, adults, beginners, pros, and a whole lot of neurodivergent legends—and the feedback’s always the same: “I feel safe here.”
Learning doesn’t have to be intimidating. In fact, it should feel exciting, safe, and light you up. That’s exactly the environment I create for every student I mentor.
